Poor at drying the air & very cumbersome to move

We have the WA-1220M model of this product (virtually identical). If you stand right in front on it, up to about 5 feet away, it’s nice. However, it has several drawbacks:

1. It isn’t very good at drying the air; evaporation is needed for effective air-conditioning (whether in your car or your home).

2. It must be drained of the water it does pull from the air, and draining the unit is very cumbersome. It comes with a small flexible plastic tube that has to be connected to the rear bottom of the unit; the other end must be lower in order to drain or the unit really does very little and although there’s an indicator light that will come on if the unit is quite full of water, it’s very rare that the light comes on (and it only does so LONG after the unit has stopped cooling the air). We have taken to wrapping a large towel around the far end of the tube to collect water that drains, but basically you must tilt the heavy unit backwards to try to drain it. This is not particularly effective but it must be done.

3. It has wheels, but it doesn’t roll easily (it’s hard to push or pull it in a straight line and the wheels are so small even getting over a low rug is difficult.

4. Moving the unit up or down a single step can be accomplished by one person but since the entire unit is made of very smooth, slippery plastic (it has handles but they’re very shallow & not helpful), it’s more safely accomplished with two people.

5. Consider that this unit, while mobile, sacrifices a good window seal. The large exhaust hose (which pumps the hot air outside) resembles a telescoping dryer hose that easily falls out of the backside of the unit and is awkward to extend evenly. The unit comes with a smallish piece of foam with a cutout hole for the hose. However, you are left with having to find some way to block the rest of whatever window you choose to put the hole into. We use a large carboard box panel and cut a hole out of, then duct-tape the box into the window opening to block out air seepage. As you can imagine, it looks pretty tacky.

We wouldn’t buy this again.

Can’t find the light bulb for it - even at Home Depot.

I was browsing thru Amazon.com because I decided to change my light fixture. To my surprise, I see the same one hanging in my dining room. This thing!

The reason I am looking for a new light fixture is because I went to Home Depot today to look for the burnt out bulbs for this unique item.

Other reason I want to change out this fixture is that I was able to find the bulbs for it few years back at Home Depot, changed out two bulbs, had 3 working bulbs. Within a month one of the bulbs went out. Then another really soon. It only had one bulb for a very long time. Because our next room, kitchen, its lights were bright, I did not bother to replace the light bulbs. And now since all of them are out, I’m looking for the bulbs.

To conclude, the bulbs burn out too fast, and you cannot find the bulbs easily. Maybe I’ll find them here. If I do, I’ll update this post. If not I would not recommend this light fixture to anyone.

Don’t use it with a newer High Efficiency front loader

My new Kenmore front loader has two cycles that cause the IntelliFlow to time out (Heavy Duty and Whitest Whites). If the cycle lasts too long, the device thinks the water has remained open too long and closes the valve. The washer is trying to do the final rinse cycle, but cannot obtain water. Because the washer is electronic, there’s no way to just turn everything off, unplug the Intelliflow, and restart at the same point in the wash cycle (once turned off the washer must resume from start). The Watts people’s workarounds do not help either. I’m trying to decide whether to have the plumber remove it or just settle for dingy clothes.

A Bit Different Than Pictured

I got one of these for my 2006 Honda CRV. As pictured there’s metal mesh on the outside and inside filter material. The one I received only has mesh on the inside. I guess it is a design change. Not sure how it’ll affect performance, if at all. Nice to get a filter for under $12 compared to dealer replace charge and labor. Look on youtube to see how easy it is to change the filter yourself and save some major bucks. Finally, I went 30k miles until I changed the filter per the owners manual. All I can say is I should’ve ignored the manual and changed it sooner…say 15 - 20k. The filter was a chunk of dirt. I’m going to change again in 15k.

GM 3.1L / 3.4L V6 Intake Manifold Gasket Set

This item is exactly what the doctor ordered for those of you who are suffering from the dreaded LIM gasket failure on GM cars equipped with the 3.1L or 3.4L V6 engine. It typically manifests itself as milky, antifreeze contaminated oil. The engine may be overheating as well. This is due to a physical breakdown of the existing OEM plastic and silicone gasket. It lacks the strength to deal with the expansion and contraction at the interface between the aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum intake manifold, and the cast iron engine block. This allows antifreeze from the cooling passages to leak internally, externally and/or sometimes both. Either way, this product will fix the problem permanently. It contains rubber coated steel PermaDry lower intake manifold gaskets. You can find an excellent how to on GM 3.1L / 3.4L LIM Gasket replacement here:

This particular part number, MS98003T applies to newer 3.4L V6’s from 1999 onwards. For older 3.1L’s up to 1998, use MS98004T. Be sure that you use ONLY one of these two sets. There are other, cheaper sets that duplicate the original OEM gasket construction materials. They WILL fail in short order. From about mid 2003 onwards, these improved gaskets are installed as stock from the factory, replacing the old plastic ones. One tool that you may want to consider for this job can be found here on Amazon, Lisle Push Rod Remover 2.8L, 3.1L, 3.4L GM V6. It allows you to remove the pushrods without removing the rocker arms. same problem

I have the same problem everyone else has. I called suncast corporation at 1-800-846-2345 and they sent me free replacement parts. The parts that go bad are called the in-tube with o rings and the out tube. Suncast says these parts will freeze and crack if your in colder climates if you don’t drain the water completley out.

Tech support won’t return calls

Pros: Easy to use, nice display

Cons: Does not accommodate heat pumps with auxiliary heating (”emergency heat”). When I called their tech support line, I reached an answering machine–and they did not ever return my call.
